Last year, "Jackie" was performed live for the first time - The event sold out (quite literally standing room only). In the past 12 months, the piece has continued to be workshopped and polished. In November of this year, it will be restaged at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre in Toronto.

As a "play for voices", all of the voice characterizations are embodied by a single performer and this creates a unique sense of intimacy with the content. Much of the development work has involved working with a dramaturge (Marcy Rogers) and a musical director (Lynn Phillips) to deepen these characterizations and to expose more of the musicality of the piece.

Based on a true story, Jackie's not a Real Girl traces the events surrounding the life, imprisonment and death of a transgendered sex trade worker. The narrative is developed by using the testimony of the people around her. These witnesses to her last days include a best friend, a barfly, a cop, a prison warden, a social worker and a John.
